Pardon Her.

Jailed as a Witch and Branded a SpyTaunted as “witch spawn” on the playground, the 72-year-old granddaughter of Helen Duncan seeks an official pardon for her grandmother, Britain’s last convicted witch.

She was jailed for 9 months as a threat to National Security because officials feared the medium would leak information on their D-Day plans.

She disclosed — allegedly through contacts in the spirit world — the sinking of two British warships long before the news was officially made public.

She also told the parents of a missing sailor that his ship, HMS Barham, had sunk. That was true, but to preserve morale, the sinking was not announced.

She should absolutely be pardoned, for no crime was ever committed.

Wearing Dog

Asiatic Raccoon DOGFar be it from me to discern what animals are Ok for wearing, since I own leather that’s also inhumanely bred for dying, but crossing out the word “Raccoon” from the label of clothing lined in DOG HAIR hardly makes a jacket more palatable for consumers.

Naturally, they are trying to downplay the domesticated animal aspect here, and fair enough, these dogs aren’t typically domestic and are one of the few that actually hibernate, but “Asiatic raccoons” are canines, not even related to raccoons by species.

What makes it shady, is labeling it as something other than what it truly is, a half-truth - lying by omission. I don’t know what it is that makes me feel Ok about slinging cowhide over my body, but simultaneously repulsed by fur.

Denise Poirier

Denise Poirier
Do you know who this woman is?

Since the early days of the internet *shakes cane* I have searched for a decent image of the face behind the voice of my favorite cartoon character ever…

Denise Poirier, voice of Aeon Flux! Aeon Flux has the most expressive and melodious voice of any female cartoon character - low, sultry, antagonistic. Denise nailed this character and I was pleasantly surprised to see a visage as lovely as her voice. :)

The monosyllabic grunts, sighs and other Aeon sounds were actually done by Drew Neumann’s (the soundtrack creator’s) wife. Might I recommend that Drew Neumann’s EyeSpy Ears Only: Confidential while I’m at it? I bought this some time back and it’s actually the soundtrack to the Aeon Flux cartoons, just with no specific reference to it for legal reasons. It’s a hypnotizing listen.

Ready for the action, NOW, Danger Boy?!

Might I add that I am especially fascinated with creator of the Aeon Flux series, Peter Chung. He is able to imply incredible intricacy with the simplest of lines, his unusual perspectives and mannerist style proportions (elongated limbs and spindly creatures) - you know when you are watching something that is his. I love it.

Freud was Repressed

Martha (wife of Freud) and Minna Bernays (her sister that lived with them) It would seem that there was something more driving Freud’s theories on repression and sexual desire, it is alleged that he signed into a hotel as Sigmund Freud and Frau on a trip with his wife’s sister, that they shared the room and a torrid affair by accounts of CG Jung.

Shown in the photograph are Freud’s wife, Martha Bernays at left, and her sister, Minna, who lived with them and was the “frau” sharing a room with him on the documented trip.

Hotel log, documentating check-in of Sigmund Freud n Frau (wife)

Of further fascination to me, was the fact that even back in 1918, Freud was progressive and well-versed enough to know that homosexuality was not to be confused with a mental illness or disease. This is documented in his comforting handwritten letter to a mother who was concerned for her gay son ( Page 1 | Page 2).

Letter written by FreudIf you buy into graphology, his handwriting says interesting things about him - the way it is scarcely legible, upward slanted and the dots race ahead of the i’s they’re intended to top.

The Flawed and Fascinating Walt Disney

It seems that little is known about the inner-workings of the man. Here’s what I found interesting:

Gas Mask sketch Disney unveiled to appeal to children during World War II

  • His staff labored at the rate of one second of screen time a month during production of Sleeping Beauty - a direct result of his scrutiny and high aesthetic standards.
  • He did not go to his father’s funeral, a man described as “cold, rigid and judgmental”
  • Pinnochio lost money and Fantasia bombed (in terms of cost vs. box office payoff), thereby eliminating plans to collaborate with Salvador Dali. God-effing-dammit!
  • During WWII, Disney made mostly military training and propaganda movies. (See bizarre, child-friendly Mickey Mouse gas mask, shown above.)

Mutilated Christ Offensive in India

Doest Thou Offend?Shown at right is the CD cover for Slayer’s newest release, “Christ Illusion,” which has been banned in India. This is surprising, because a) There is a market for Slayer in India. b) India is mostly Hindu, why are they offended by a so-called “mutilated christ?”

Slayer has been accused in the past of utilizing Satanic symbols more for marketing than out of true personal beliefs. If this is the case, they win from the publicity garnered by this BBC article.

Personally, I like Slayer and find nothing offensive about this. Even if I did, then perhaps I would refrain from buying said CD instead of making a fuss over something so innocuous. This is trivial in the grand scale of problems faced by India.

The band wound up putting a white mask over the offending artwork, so that it is only partially seen through cut-outs of the logotype spelling the band’s name.

Get this shit:

EMI India said it withdrew the albums and destroyed them so no community would be offended by the material.

Thank goodness people are being protected from Slayer! I find them to be a problem on a daily basis and my every waking thought is consumed by this band and the havoc they wreak. Hopefully, you’ll note the sarcasm dripping from the preceeding sentence. ;)

All Slayer artwork is done by artist, Larry Carroll.

Big thanks to Angel of Malevolence, the Metal Mistress, for digging up the artist to credit, something the articles neglected to do (for shame!).
