Unreal Sea Creatures

jellyfish-related

The picture shown is an ancestor of jellyfish, which I’ve always thought were beautiful. I love how they’re blacklight-reactive. This isn’t even the wildest of the bunch, you gotta see the slideshow!

Denise Poirier

Denise Poirier
Do you know who this woman is?

Since the early days of the internet *shakes cane* I have searched for a decent image of the face behind the voice of my favorite cartoon character ever…

Denise Poirier, voice of Aeon Flux! Aeon Flux has the most expressive and melodious voice of any female cartoon character - low, sultry, antagonistic. Denise nailed this character and I was pleasantly surprised to see a visage as lovely as her voice. :)

The monosyllabic grunts, sighs and other Aeon sounds were actually done by Drew Neumann’s (the soundtrack creator’s) wife. Might I recommend that Drew Neumann’s EyeSpy Ears Only: Confidential while I’m at it? I bought this some time back and it’s actually the soundtrack to the Aeon Flux cartoons, just with no specific reference to it for legal reasons. It’s a hypnotizing listen.

Ready for the action, NOW, Danger Boy?!

Might I add that I am especially fascinated with creator of the Aeon Flux series, Peter Chung. He is able to imply incredible intricacy with the simplest of lines, his unusual perspectives and mannerist style proportions (elongated limbs and spindly creatures) - you know when you are watching something that is his. I love it.

KITEC Ever-2 Muse Robot

Advancements in humanoid robots, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology has developed an entertainer robot. She stands near 5′3″ and weighs 132 lbs.

Shown is one of the better pics, in the others she is more noticeably inhuman due to her mannequin-like eyes and brows.

This is a source of endless fascination to me, how robotics (and computer animation) are always a bit off due to the soullessness of the eyes and the overly-smooth features, expressions and movements.

I Love George Takei

I ♥ George Takei

I never cared much about anything having to do with the old school Star Trek series, but since George Takei came out of the closet and has been publicly speaking for equal rights for ALL people (gay, straight, undecided - it’s shouldn’t matter!), well - I just adore the man!

He was brave to go on the Howard Stern show in the first place, but to become the official announcer of? It’s wonderful! He lends such an air of culture, giving Robin someone on her level to converse with, and is such a self-aware man with a wicked sense of humor.

Here is an article on this lovely man and
here is his official site.

The Fembot Mystique

A topic near and dear to my heart, “pop-culture fascination with female robots.” However, I found the list strangely lacking. Is our society really that bereft of robot women?

Here’s one I adore:
False Maria from Metropolis
The “False Maria” from Metropolis.

The Terminatrix: Neat concept, poorly executed.

My favorite image from the article, based on its garish, nightmarish quality. I’ve never seen the show it’s from, the Bionic Woman.

I’m not sure what drives a lot of robot fetishists out there, I think they imagine big complacent women-dolls, ready to oblige their every whim. On Planet Amy, robot chickies are FIERCE!!! My fixation is based on the concept of an idealized woman, no longer prone to being the weaker sex - in terms of physical strength. Is it obvious how difficult that last sentence was to type? >;)

In searching for an image of Maria winking (which I never found, if you have - please send!) I learned that female robots are also referred to as gynoids.” Sounds like a condition. On Wikipedia, it shows that someone has proposed to merge “fembot” into the “gynoid” article. No sir, I don’t like it! Either term, really.
