Skinny Puppy

1st time to witness Skinny Puppy live last night. Fucking glorious! Goddamned intense! It takes something spectacular to extract me from my house and wedge me into a crowd of ppl, my aversion to this is strong.

Gut-rumbling bass, fucking loud… I wanted it even louder! ;) (Coincidentally, is why I always blow my car speakers & can’t hear shit.) I didn’t even realize my ears were ringing until I got home into silence. cEVIN Key = mad scientist let loose in sound laboratory, un-fucking-real. Cannot fathom how he does it & at that pace!

Ogre is so charismatic. Spoilers said he “hides” behind a curtain. It’s not really hiding, so much as silhouetted shadow-play, intricate designs. (I wanna figure out the logistics of that, as it would make for some neat photography.) The blood was plentiful. Uncooperative lighting pissed him off, but he went w/it, “giving it” to an offending light at one point. ;)

Wide sampling of their catalog was played, all of it excellent. Bad-ass merchandise, good quality & variety (stuff for chickies!).

Ok, here’s where I get into aesthetics, b/c as an artist I am allowed to fixate on visuals and be superficial. ;) These two are the most beautiful statuesque creatures, like the styling of Aeon Flux (cartoon), they’re fucking lovely.

Some of Ogre’s facial expressions were Hannibal Lecter-ish, cannot describe the beauty. (Disclaimer for raised eyebrows: it’s Hannibal’s intensity & demeanor I find appealing. Murder/cannibalism = not so hot.)

Went w/horror fetish extraordinaire Diana Graves, who commandeered a limo for this special occasion. Will post pictures of this on my MySpace later on.

Note for ppl seeing shows @ House of Blues: If you choke down some of their Southern-styled cooking, they let you in before those in line outside - at least, that’s what a poster there promised.

Eidetic Imagery

Thinking in pictures:

Psychologists have been able to classify people into two groups. The first is the ‘pictorial’ type, for whom imagery is the scanning of an actual image and storing it in the brain.

The second type is the “descriptionist”, who do not perceive a picture but the graphic detailed nature of the language stored in the memory bank as an image.

I retain images and impressions, blocks of color, shadow, lighting, composition… but to relay these things verbally… far more difficult. I can’t explain movie plots to save my life, yet I could ramble on over visually stunning elements. ;)

The psychologist in this article says, “Those who are good at, and have the rare gift and facility of, thinking in vivid imagery, may not need to acquire verbal skills.

However, I see no supporting facts within the article to say that there is no need, just that it requires more effort for these ‘pictorial’ types.

Santa Angelina

Santa AngelinaAngelina Jolie is so lovely. Not just for obvious reasons, but because she lives with such intensity.

Drawn by hand and carved out of 9×12″ black scratchboard.

In the reference photo, she’s speaking to a group of children - totally connecting with them and radiating such joy!

To me, this image is glorious, exalted. I want to redo this in a Baroque style, to do it more justice.

I Would Rather

I Would Rather

Sometimes this seems a preferable alternative to the bullshit that goes on, though of course it would be self-defeating. For someone as visually-stimulated as myself, this would be ghastly, though sometimes I would rather…

What has me agitated:

Blaming Video Games for Violence

Faith-based regulations passing

Lack of food-safety standards in China snuffing pets

Seeking a positive side… it spawned a painting.

See it larger in the Gallery and nab some Icons of it.

Wagging Interpreted

Straying from my signature style, it should be noted that the emphasis for this project was the typography, rather than image quality. Further, the image is not my own, nor was it used for profit, but for a school project.

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp Typography Project

This is intriguing, the angle to which a dog’s tail wags is indicative of their mood:

  • Wagging to the Right = Happy Dog
  • Wagging to the Left = Anxious

Also gives me an excuse to post a Typography project based on my favorite Led Zeppelin song, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, which is all about the good times had with the best dog ever. That song is also not typically my style, but it’s so upbeat & fitting, for what it describes!
