Organic Animation or Technical Tracing?

Embedded below is the 1st computer animation I’ve seen of a human that is not distracting in its articiality.

Can this be claimed as a victory over the uncanny valley? Mind you, it’s completely built on underlying footage of actors - they can’t create new scenarios from scratch.

It’s essentially tracing - Image Metrics has developed an effective and efficient means of digitizing actors and it is well executed.

Billy West | Dallas Comic Con 9

Long overdue, uploaded footage of the amazing Billy West from Dallas Comic Con 9 - July 2007.

For those not as well-versed on cartoons, he is the voice of Ren & Stimpy; Fry, Zoidberg, Professor Farnsworth & Zapp Brannigan on Futurama; along with countless others.

Footage captured by Iceberg of RenegadeRadio.net, using his phone, uploaded by me. :)

Cleaning out the toy room(s). Below is a sampling of the collectibles I’m horking on Ebay. Naturally, I’m keeping the most cherished ones.

Quotes from The Maxx

Quotes from The Maxx (animated) by Sam Kieth that I couldn’t find elsewhere on the web:

Julie: “Right now, you wait.”

Sara: (reading poster) “And the day came, when the risk to remain closed in a bud, became more painful, than the risk it took to blossom.”

Plastination

Rooster VesselsBallet Dancer

“A process at the interface of the medical discipline of anatomy and modern polymer chemistry, Plastination makes it possible to preserve individual tissues and organs that have been removed from the body of the deceased as well as the entire body itself”

The Bodyworlds exhibit was unreal, spectacular!

Points of Interest:

  • Organs look much smaller plastinated than when soaking in formalin.
  • Everything is so fibrous - Tissue, muscle, tendons, even bones - they look like coral, with tiny pockets when processed this way
  • No ghostly activity, which I was hoping for, considering all of the deceased present. ;)
  • I found the Horse the most compelling out of all. Magnificent creature.

A very sterile installation, all of the souls seem to have long since departed. Logically, if there were to be ghosties, it would center around an area or individual, instead of the body left behind.

Which raises another point, made more readily apparent by this exhibit, that the spark that makes you, you, lies in the energy of the being. How the skin hangs on our bones, how it’s weathered, how we decorate it, the tension in one’s muscles that shape the flesh - the exact same thing that’s missing from CGI - that which departs when we do.

We saw it in Dallas, thanks to Angel of Malevolence! :D Be sure to listen to her station, Redemption Radio where she serves up metal just for you, Ren, for yooou.

Adult Swim

No, this is not in reference to the Mooninite hubbub. What I want to know is who these two are indulging in order to continue flinging their crap onto our TV screens?!

Tom Goes to the Mayor is the worst and I assume it’s on hiatus for a reason. Now we must face their hideous visages without the crappy Photoshop filter effects on their latest turd, premiering on Adult Swim next weekend?!

Sometimes it’s insulting, what execs think we will watch. 12oz Mouse, Squidbillies and other sucky shows littering the line-up, you are included in the mediocrity that sends me running to other channels, sitcom reruns even!
