Look lively boys, better make yourself useful. This doesn’t bode well for men in light of recent data.

Feeling Like We Do

Article on the similarities between rats and humans. Interesting bits:

  • They laugh when tickled, especially when they’re young
  • Rats dream as we dream, in epic narratives of navigation and thwarted efforts at escape
  • Look forward to good sex, “They wiggle and paw at their ears, hop and dart, stop and flash a come-hither look backward.”
  • One study showed that rats accustomed to good times tend to be optimists, while those reared in unstable conditions become pessimists.

Vocal Pitch & Physical Dominance

This describes how men adjust their vocal pitch, lower it when they perceive themselves as superior to another male they are speaking to.

I remember being little, hearing my father address strangers in this bizarre lowered voice that was out of line with his general speaking. I never knew it was a pissing contest, calculated or not.

On a similar primal note, this describes why gentlemen prefer blondes: “blonde hair is a marker of youth as it normally turns to brown as a woman ages.”

Selective Morality

It’s revolting how these self-righteous fucks inflict morals via legislation, but fancy themselves to be above the law.

Meanwhile, with their words they are fostering a society of hatred & discrimination, most notably against gay people in the name of preserving the “sanctity of marriage,” which should only be pissed upon in secret - have some couth, man!

Then, conveniently enough, with their religion they are forgiven for behaving like savages, so long as they repent with the Jeebus & their families.

“People can believe in two opposing things. Humans are ingenious in how they can make exceptions for themselves. ‘Practice what you preach’ is an old saw, but there are plenty of charismatic figures who are known to be mean and nasty in their home life,”

“These people make an exception for themselves. The very fact of their own misbehavior is the reason they preach to others,”

I’m fascinated by how ppl can perceive themselves, in thoughts & words, as a good person - or somehow qualified to advise others on how to properly live their lives - when their actions say otherwise.

“Often the people who speak loudest about something are trying to protect themselves from their own urges. They act out one way on the public stage, but inside they have this urge. They feel it’s wrong, and outwardly, they’re telling themselves it’s wrong. It’s as if they’re having a conversation with themselves,”

Of Shoes & Ships & Sealing Wax…

Bits of randomness as my mind has already left for vacation.

Diana Graves (aka Phoenix) & I have been taking in local comic & horror conventions & loving it. Further evidence of me nerding out can be seen in my MySpace “Shitting Twinkies” photo album. ;)

Feel free to friend me if you wanna see, I’m not incredibly elitist. However, if you are racist or homophobic, don’t bother - low tolerance for intolerance here. Life’s too short, go find something productive to do.
