Men Falling Behind

Gender Gaps in High School Graduates (2003-2004):
Male: 66%
Female: 74%
(Source)

Also:
Men in their 30’s are not doing as well as their fathers at the same age, even with their wives’ paychecks added in. (Source)

WTF happened? I would LOVE to read some more studies on this, as I am convinced that this is generational, age-specific, these unmotivated men.

Class Consciousness

“Your class, Payne says, determines everything: your eating habits, your speech patterns, your family relations.”

    Humor by Class:
  • Humor in poverty = People & Sex
  • Middle Class = Situational
  • Privileged: Social Faux Pas

If marrying into poverty, your spouse may view you as a possession to be protected. She advises a person to try & see the positives in this, which I find interesting - I cannot fathom the finer points of being owned. :|

Accusations are flying against the author, of Marxism & stereotyping, but I think she is offering ppl an advantage, to better relate to others, to go further.

How could anyone deny that social class affects one’s station in life? I’ve seen ppl hindered by this, both in college & the corporate world.

Polydactyls

“I has 26 toes!”
I has 26 toes!

I ♥ that the owners didn’t amputate the extras, since they cause him no problems, nor is he declawed from the sound of the article.

FYI: For those that don’t know, declawing is equivalent to severing your finger up to the first knuckle - not nice!

Apparently extra-toed cats are common in an area of Wales.

What the French Know

Eat less, weigh less, it’s not rocket science. (Source)

I get particularly feisty because in the South, ppl don’t hesitate to inform that you “need to put some meat on them bones,” while they, themselves, are fucking rhinoceri.

I eat anything I want, ridiculous shit, but I stop when I’m full. That’s it.

Eidetic Imagery

Thinking in pictures:

Psychologists have been able to classify people into two groups. The first is the ‘pictorial’ type, for whom imagery is the scanning of an actual image and storing it in the brain.

The second type is the “descriptionist”, who do not perceive a picture but the graphic detailed nature of the language stored in the memory bank as an image.

I retain images and impressions, blocks of color, shadow, lighting, composition… but to relay these things verbally… far more difficult. I can’t explain movie plots to save my life, yet I could ramble on over visually stunning elements. ;)

The psychologist in this article says, “Those who are good at, and have the rare gift and facility of, thinking in vivid imagery, may not need to acquire verbal skills.

However, I see no supporting facts within the article to say that there is no need, just that it requires more effort for these ‘pictorial’ types.
